Interacting Cognitive Subsystems underpinning 3rd Wave CBT.
The publications and therapeutic approaches that follow employ ICS as a way of approaching CBT across diagnoses – because: ICS provides a cognitive science based rationale for:- The disjunction between thought and emotion
- The centrality of arousal in understanding mental health difficulties
- Attachment and relationship as central to the self, and central to the therapeutic process
- The role of mindfulness in providing a way into the process between thought and emotion and behaviour.
36th BABCP Annual Conference, University of Edinburgh 16th-19th July 2008
Pre-Conference Workshop (16th July).
CBT for inpatient and crisis
settings; a newly developed CBT approach to enable the
individual to make sense of crisis, and enhance the milieu.
Isabel Clarke and Dr. Hannah
Wilson.
Local BABCP groups are hosting this workshop as follows:
Southampton/Eastleigh November 11th 2008
Nottingham January 16th 2009
Exeter - date to be confirmed 2009
The theme of support for those working in inpatient and crisis settings was prominent at this workshop. In this context, we forgot to mention the IPPN: Inpatient Practitioners' Network. Until now this has been open to all practitioners – however, it looks likely that it might be confined to members of the BPS Complex Mental Health Faculty in future, which would restrict it to psychologists. More information on the BPS website (www.bps.org.uk). This will be decided in September. The group holds meetings in London and has a Lyris web discussion list – all very useful.

been developing and evaluating an approach to delivering therapy within
the inpatient environment, that fits within the "third wave" CBT
paradigm.Publications:
